Artist Statement

This early body of work shows the emerging dialogue between colour, place and line within the artists ceramics. As such the vessels were constructed from porcelain using the Japanese Nerikomi technique of constructing objects from coloured or stained clay. The lines created with this technique on the vessel mimic the sedimentary layers found in sand stone as well as the paths carved by water over sand. Through these patterns the vessels reference the natural environment of the artists rural home and the earthy origins of clay.
